Romeo + Juliet – St John, Hackney 2014

In the stunning setting of St John at Hackney Church, Some Voices choir, all 200 of them, sang the soundtrack from Romeo & Juliet complete with live band, spoken word and enough natural reverb to make doves cry.

This immersive event put the audience at the heart of the family feud. Assigned as either Capulet or Montague the audience entered the church, walked down the aisle lit by neon crosses, inhaled the burning incense and stood side by side with other family members as they relived the tragic tale.

The gig featured ‘Kissing You’, ‘Lovefool’ and ‘Everybody’s Free’ as well as original arrangements of contemporary Christmas Carols and Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’.

Some Voices

SOME VOICES started small in 2010, with seven chorus members meeting up to perform original arrangements of popular classics that range from Bowie to Bjork, from Stevie Wonder to Stevie Nicks, from Folk to Hip Hop, and everything in between - all with a Some Voices twist.

Eight years down the line, more than 800 singers are now part of the exciting ensemble that performs on some of the biggest stages in London. KOKO, The Southbank Centre, Oval Space, The Coronet, The Rivoli Ballroom and The Troxy have all seen the group attract audiences in their thousands
